Your traditional BBQ cylinder is more accurately described as a 20 lb. DOT cylinder and is designed to hold 20 lbs. of Liquid Propane Gas (LPG). However, most of the exchange cylinders you find in cages out front of retailers are filled to only 75% of capacity. While these cylinders are clearly marked 15 lbs., most of the general public does not know what propane weighs and how that translates into gallons. Propane weighs 4.1 lbs. per gallon, thus 15 lb. = 3.57 gallons or ¾ capacity. Our full cylinders mean less change outs and increased cooking time per cylinder!

Absolutely we can. While we cannot do this at your home, you can visit our location and have your cylinder refilled; our price per gallon is the lowest in town.

Cylinders have a manufacture date stamped on them. They are able to be refilled up to twelve years beyond that date. We are authorized to do a visual inspection and recertify your cylinder for an additional 5 years. After that, it’s time for a new one. Any cylinders without the OPD valve or beyond date are obsolete and must be taken out of service and properly disposed of. We have new cylinders should you need one.

Propane, much like natural gas has an added odorant (ethyl mercaptan) that smells like sulfur or rotten eggs. If smell such an odor, you must assume there is a leak and take the cylinder or appliance (whichever has the leak) out of service. The best way to check for leaks is to use a solution of soapy water around all connections, hoses and seals. If you see bubbles forming, this indicates a leak and again the cylinder or appliance should be taken out of service.

Cylinders should be stored outside and away from direct sunlight. Should the cylinder be exposed to extreme heat, the built-in pressure release valve will relieve excess pressure by off gassing. Off-gassing outdoors poses no safety risk (assuming there is no fire, flame or smoking in the vicinity) since the gas quickly dissipates. Off-gassing indoors can pose a serious fire risk.

All new cylinders come equipped with an OPE (Overfill Prevention Device) that prevents overfilling of cylinders via a float attached to the valve. As the cylinder reaches maximum allowable amount of liquid propane the float rises and shuts off the valve stopping the flow of fuel. This safety device makes filling overfilling virtually impossible.

HOME DELIVERY QUESTIONS

Much like a milk man; you give us your empty cylinders and we replace them with full ones. All our tanks have the required OPD (Overfill Protection Device) valve and are within certification date. This is your assurance that you are getting a safe and functional replacement cylinder. We can only exchange for tanks that are within certification date and have the OPD valve. The valve is easy to spot since it is a triangular handle design. Exchange is our most popular seller.

No, you can bring us your cylinder and we will fill it while you wait. You can also purchase a new and filled cylinder at our location or have it delivered.
